A klaxon warning system has been put in place in Parton following a landslide.

The risk to public safety remains and evacuation and road closures remain in place following the landslide last Tuesday.

Survey work is ongoing and Cumbria County Council will continue to monitor the stability of the slope.

Letters are to be given to residents within the cordon to advise them of the klaxon system. Anyone inside the cordon area (fenced area) who hear the claxon should clear the area immediately.

A statement from Cumbria County Council said: “We strongly advise people to avoid the affected area and not return to homes if they are within the fenced-off cordon area.”

St Bridget’s Primary School is communicating directly with families to explain the situation and the options for September, which include a one to two-week period of remote learning with longer-term plans for education on an alternative local site being developed in case they are needed.
