A warning has been issued after reports of scam letters have been made in the Workington area.
Cumberland Council said it had received reports of the letters from a company called Energy Support Centre.
Cumberland Council said it was not a legitimate letter and people should not respond or share personal information.
The letter:
- Urges urgent contact by phone
- References the council to appear legitimate
- Comes from a company only recently registered
It added that Cumberland Council was sending out genuine letters about its Warm Homes Local Grant – but these would be clearly marked with Cumberland Council’s branding.
Anyone in doubt about a letter they receive in connection with the authority should contact the council directly.
