The Cumbria County League is ready to kick off on Saturday, but with a reduced number of teams.

It follows-on from the reorganised 2020-21 season when ravel restrictions in place midway through caused some disruption to fixtures in both divisions.

In order to provide the member clubs with some football participation and adhere to the travel requirement, the two division set-up was amended to three geographic areas, East Division, West Division One and West Division Two.

As a consequence, two clubs decided not to participate in this new structure, Gosforth and Workington Reds Juniors (White).

Workington Reds Juniors (Black) did commence fixtures but pulled out after experiencing difficulties raising a team.  This reduced the number of teams continuing from 22 to 19.

On completion of the rearranged structure, Pirelli were East Division Champions with Workington Reds Development taking the West Division One title and Bransty Rangers the West Division Two honours.

Prior to the AGM, both Workington Reds Juniors (Black) and (White) teams along with Carlisle based Crown Newlaithes resigned from the League, with Gosforth returning to the fold for the 2021-22 season.

The Management Committee then decided on a 10-team Premier Division with nine teams making up Division One.

Unfortunately, Bransty Rangers and Moor Row have now also resigned without a ball being kicked.

Rather than remove a team from the Premier Division to supplement numbers, it was decided to carry on with seven teams competing in Division One.

There are options in place to ensure a full series of fixtures will be provided for this Division throughout the season.

The teams now competing in Premier Division are: Aspatria, Carlisle City Development, Cockermouth, Gosforth, Maryport Athletic, Northbank, Pirelli, Wigton Harriers, Workington Reds Development and Workington Athletic.

Division One: Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves, Mirehouse, Silloth, UniSun Athletic, Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves, Whitehaven Miners and Windscale Reserves.
