The Derwent Valley Federation will race from Charnock Richard this weekend as they complete their programme catch-up.
They fitted in Garstang on Tuesday, and although still behind schedule, hope to fit in Appleton in mid-week ahead of a link up with the West Cumberland Federation for a second Appleton race on Sunday, August 22.
Plans, of course, are fluid because of the weather and there have been no discussions as yet on the first West Cumbria Amalgamation race when the two organisations get together.
It’s a tricky situation made more difficult by the weather with the week-end looking sticky again, although things seem to improve Tuesday and Wednesday – or so the forecast says at the moment.
In the prepared pre-season programme the get-together should have been this Saturday from Appleton but because of race cancellations that will not be possible.
The West Cumberland Federation had another good race from Charnock Richard on Tuesday and they look all set to race from Appleton this weekend.
Although like their DVF neighbours will be watching the weather forecasts closely.
The Derwent Valley birds were liberated at 9.55am on Tuesday and from the near 60-mile flight the leaders were doing around 42mph.
Returns were good and like their West Cumberland counterparts they have enjoyed some very good racing for the young birds.
