Woman and police officer assaulted in Whitehaven pub

A woman and a police officer were assaulted in a Whitehaven pub by two men.

A 59-year-old man, of Whitehaven, was arrested on suspicion of assault ABH, assault by beating of an emergency worker and affray.

A 29-year-old man, of Cleator Moor, was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker and affray. Both men have been released under investigation.

The incident occurred shortly after 8pm on Saturday August 7 inside Anchor Vaults, Market Place.

A 27-year-old woman and sustained a head injury as a result. A female police officer was also assaulted but was uninjured.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any further information to contact them.
