Cumbria’s director of public health is asking visitors to take a lateral flow test before they travel to the county after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases.

There were 1,399 new cases in Cumbria in the week ending August 18, up from 1,266 five days earlier and 1,056 in the week ending August 6.

Here is the number of new weekly cases by district, accompanied by the rate per 100,000 and percentage increase/decrease when compared with 12 days earlier:

  • Allerdale – 272 -13.6% (278 per 100,000)
  • Barrow – 245 +17.95% (367.2 per 100,000)
  • Carlisle – 223 +35.15 (205.5 per 100,000)
  • Eden – 208 +278.18% (386.9 per 100,000)
  • South Lakeland – 250 (238.3 per 100,000)

Speaking to BBC Radio Four last night, Cumbria’s director of public health Colin Cox urged visitors to the Lake District to take a lateral flow test before travelling after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases.

New cases have risen by almost a third in the space of 10 days.
