Tourism and hospitality businesses from across the Lakes and South Cumbria have signed up for a major jobs fair aimed at matching the latest vacancies with potential new recruits.
The drop-in event at The Forum in Barrow will showcase a wide range of full-time and part-time job opportunities suitable for everyone from school and college leavers to aspiring hotel and restaurant managers and people looking to return to the workplace after a career break.
Around 25 stands with key Cumbrian tourism employers will include: Storrs Hall, Haven Lakeland, The Swan at Newby Bridge, Windermere Lake Cruises, The Leeu Collection, The Inn Collection, Hargreaves Enterprises (BAHA, Lake View Garden Bar, The Fizzy Tarté), The Ro Hotel, Langdale Hotel & Spa, and more.
Job coaches and training providers will also be on hand to help match job seekers with the best roles to suit them, and there will be an informal networking area where people can talk one-to-one about the job vacancies on offer on the day.
It’s all part of Cumbria Tourism’s #theperfectplacetowork recruitment campaign, which is challenging perceptions around what it means to work in Cumbria’s tourism and hospitality industry and helping businesses to better promote their job vacancies.
Rachel Tyson, head of partnerships & projects at Cumbria Tourism, said: “This recruitment event is all about matching the right people with the right jobs, and there will be plenty of opportunities for applicants to put themselves forward for specific jobs on the day.
“In the meantime, preparations are well underway to get some exciting and dynamic employers involved in the event and we’re also working closely with transport providers across the county to look at new and innovative ways of helping new recruits to access jobs across the Lakes more easily by public transport.”
The Jobs Fair, which takes place between 10am-1pm on September 29, has been arranged by Cumbria Tourism and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), alongside partners from Local IQ, Job Centre Plus and Inspira.
Paul Foster, FSB development manager for Cumbria, said: “Small businesses across Cumbria in the hospitality and tourism sectors have some fantastic opportunities right now, whether local people are looking for a career or just some temporary extra income.
“It’s an exciting and fast-moving sector to work in with some great opportunities for moving upwards for those who want to progress their careers. If you are a business with vacancies you need to fill or a local resident this event is one not to be missed.”
