A Carlisle man was ordered to pay £1,295 after he was found inside a car with three other people during tier 4 coronavirus restrictions.

Steven James Airey, 21, was caught in an Audi on Brough Road in Carlisle on February 27 with three other people, in direct contravention of the restrictions at the time.

Airey, of Brookside, was found guilty using single justice procedure. This involves the case being decided outside of court, with defendants receiving a single justice procedure notice.

He was fined £1,100, ordered to pay a £110 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

Also dealt with by Carlisle’s magistrates’ court last Monday was Iona Bateman who also broke tier 4 coronavirus restrictions by gathering in a private home on Iredale Crescent in Workington with two or more people.

Bateman, 25, of Davies Road in Workington, pleaded guilty to the offence via single justice procedure.

She was fined £120, told to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

Emily Eden, 23, also breached tier four coronavirus rules by gathering in a private dwelling consisting of two or more people. This offence took place on February 16.

Her offence was proven by single justice procedure. Eden, of Beckside Court in Brampton, was fined £1,760, was ordered to pay a £176 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

Aspatria man Jason Hetherington, 27, landed himself with a £650 fine after he left his home without a reasonable excuse on November 14, which broke the coronavirus lockdown rules.

He admitted the offence by single justice procedure.

Hetherington, of Mart Close in Aspatria, was also ordered to pay a £65 victim surcharge and £85 in costs.

A 32-year-old woman also faced charges of breaching coronavirus restrictions. Lucianne Hinch broke the rules by leaving her home address in South Yorkshire to travel to Ambleside.

The offence took place on March 3.

Hinch gave her current address as Ackenthwaite to the court.

She admitted the offence by single justice procedure and was fined £1,384, was ordered to pay £85 in costs and to pay a victim surcharge of £138.
