The Met Office has extended its weather warning for rain until the end of Friday.
The forecaster had originally issued a yellow weather warning – the lowest level of three warnings issued by the Met Office – from 6am tomorrow until 12pm on Thursday.
The warning has now been extended and will remain in force until 11.59pm on Friday.
What to expect on Wednesday:
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
The warning says: “Persistent and at times heavy rain is expected to cause impacts from Wednesday morning. In general, 40-80 mm is expected within the warning area but 140-180 mm is likely over high ground with as much as 200 mm in some locations during Wednesday.”

- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
The warning says: “Persistent and at times heavy rain is expected to continue to cause impacts from through Thursday and Friday. In general, a further 30-60 mm is expected within the warning area but 80-100 mm is likely over high ground with as much as 150 mm in some locations. This is in addition to high rainfall totals over the previous 24 hours.”
