Copeland Council is urging low-income households to apply for grants to make their homes more energy-efficient.
The government’s Green Homes Grants are being delivered across Cumbria and the total pot of money available is £5.07m. The funding has been drawn down by the North West Energy Hub as part of the Local Authority Delivery Scheme.
Councillor Andy Pratt, Copeland’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “This is a great scheme that will make a real difference to people’s homes and to their energy bills. And of course, it also means we are helping the country to achieve its target of net-zero carbon.
“I hope people take advantage of the grants and make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run.”
The scheme will focus on households with an income of less than £30,000 a year. It will install energy-efficiency measures for owner-occupied and private, rented homes with the lowest levels of insulation. Homes with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of E, F or G will be prioritised.
For households on less than £30,000 per year, the fund could pay for:
- External wall insulation
- Solar panels
- Loft insulation
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Smart heating controls
- Double glazing
- ‘Room in roof’ insulation
Owner-occupiers could get measures worth up to £10,000, with no additional contribution, and some rented properties could also be eligible for funding, with an additional contribution from the landlord.
EON will manage the design and installation process and projects need to be complete by March 31 2021. People interested in applying should visit https://www.eonenergy.com/home-heating/green-homes-grant.html or call EON on 0333 202 4820.
