A charity has urged victims of abuse to speak out after a north Cumbrian child rapist was jailed for 22 years.
Simon Blenkinship repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted two primary school-age girls, and molested a third. The 56-year-old was jailed yesterday at Carlisle Crown Court for 22 years.
Following the sentencing, a NSPCC spokeswoman said: “Blenkinship committed a horrendous string of offences against multiple victims, who have shown incredible bravery in speaking out to ensure he faced justice and we hope they are receiving the support they need.
“The jailing of Blenkinship for these appalling crimes shows time is no barrier to justice, and we would urge anyone who has experienced abuse as a child – no matter when it happened or who the perpetrator was – to speak out and seek support.”
Children can contact Childline on 0800 1111. Adults with concerns about children or who wish to report abuse can phone the NSPCC helpline on 0808 8005000 or email [email protected]
