Coronavirus in Cumbria: Latest cases, deaths and hospitalisations

New coronavirus cases have fallen in Cumbria for the third week running.

In the week ending November 12, there were 1,987 new cases in Cumbria, a decrease of 96 (-5%), from 2,083 new cases in the previous week.

Allerdale overtook Copeland in having the greatest number of new cases with 380, while Barrow overtook Copeland in having the highest rate of new cases with 556 cases per 100,000.

Here are the number of new weekly cases by district, accompanied with the rate per 100,000 in brackets:

  • Allerdale – 380 (388 per 100,000)
    Last week – 401 (410 per 100,000)
  • Barrow-in-Furness – 378 (566 per 100,000)
    Last week – 366 (549 per 100,000)
  • Carlisle – 364 (335 per 100,000)
    Last week – 382 (352 per 100,000)
  • Copeland – 339 (498 per 100,000)
    Last week – 435 (639 per 100,000)
  • Eden – 155 (288 per 100,000)
    Last week – 221 (411 per 100,000)
  • South Lakeland – 371 (354 per 100,000)
    Last week – 280 (267 per 100,000)

Cases by age group

  • The 5-11 age group overtook the 40-49 age group in having the greatest number of new cases in Cumbria (+336 new cases);
  • The 5-11 age group also overtook the 12-18 age group in having the greatest rate of new cases in Cumbria (905 new cases per 100k population);
  • New cases increased notably from the previous week in the 19-24 and 5-11 age groups (+24% and +16% respectively);
  • New cases in the under 50 age group accounted for 73% of total new cases (compared to 71% in the previous week);
  • The rate of new cases in the under 50 age group was 2.4 times higher than the rate of new cases in the 50+ age group (compared to 2.2 times higher in the previous week);
  • Overall, new cases in the under 50 age group decreased by 2% while new cases in the 50+ age group both decreased by 9%.

Deaths and hospitalisations

Data for the week ending November 16:

  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) decreased by eight from the previous week and the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in NCIC also decreased by five from the previous week;
  • The number of new patients admitted with COVID-19 in University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) decreased by 11 from the previous week and the average number of patients with COVID-19 in beds in UHMB also decreased by two from the previous week.

In the week to November 5, there were nine COVID-19 related deaths in Cumbria.
