More than 30 recycling bins are being installed on streets across Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown to help people recycle on the go.
After receiving over £24,000 from the Government’s Resource Action Fund, the city council is installing 32 new on-street recycling bins to help residents recycle their drinks cans and plastics bottles while out and about.
The new bins have compartments to recycle drinks cans and plastic bottles separately, and a compartment for general waste litter.
The cans and plastics bottles will be recycled into new products.
The recycling compartments are clearly coloured and labelled, and Carlisle City Council is urging residents to make sure they put the ‘right thing in the right bin’ to help prevent contamination and ensure the materials can be recycled.
The bins are being installed in locations around Carlisle city centre, Brampton town centre, Longtown town centre and Kingstown Industrial Estate.
Councillor Nigel Christian, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We want to support our residents and visitors’ efforts to recycle and if you’re out and about in Carlisle look out for the new bins and recycle ‘on the go’.
“The locations have been chosen as they are litter hotspots and by installing them, we hope there is less litter and more options to recycle.”
