Kendal Town crashed out of the Lancashire Challenge Trophy last night, beaten 4-1 at Charnock Richard.
But the second round tie was not high on the list of priorities for new manager Warren Beattie, who was looking to Saturday’s NPL West game at City of Liverpool.
He said: “Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like losing any match, but I already had my eyes on the next League game.
“A number of players weren’t involved, so it did give me an opportunity to give game-time to lads who hadn’t been involved.
“For large parts of the game we played well but we gave away some poor goals, and having to change the centre of our defence didn’t help.”
He had overseen a 2-1 win over Market Drayton on Saturday, a result that lifted Kendal off the bottom of the table.
“It’s important now to follow-up and get something on Saturday and after a good training session on Thursday I want the lads focused, believing we can go there and bring something back,” said Beattie.
Before then he expects to have two more additions to the squad which he is rapidly re-shaping.
Charnock Richard led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Jack Gooden and Daniel Regan, and by the 65h minute had doubled that advantage with further goals from Ross Ellison and Jordan Darr.
Kendal did reduce the arrears on 68 minutes when Jordan Scott converted a cross from Chris Wraight.
