Love is in the air at a Lake District hotel as two dedicated staff members have recently made the decision to tie the knot.

Ciaran Hampton and Sarah Sheridan who are both employed at the 4-star Inn on the Square have announced their engagement after three years of being together. The lovebirds, who respectively work as Duty Manager and Receptionist, are both originally from Ireland, but funnily enough, this is not where they met.

The pair first caught each other’s attention whilst working in Guernsey on a university placement as part of their tourism and hospitality degree. Sarah took Ciaran for his first coffee and the pair have been inseparable ever since.

After completing the first half of their placement, they fancied a change of scenery which is when they made their way to the Keswick area. They first began working at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa in Borrowdale as part of a work experience partnership between Lake District Hotels and Ulster University.

Once their placement ended, the couple returned back home to Ireland to finish their degrees but it wasn’t long until they received a call from Iain Grant, General Manager of the Inn on the Square, who offered them permanent roles at the town-centre hotel once they graduated.

“We both feel so lucky to live in Keswick. It is such a beautiful place to live and work with plenty of activities to enjoy,” Ciaran said. “There is also a great selection of restaurants and pubs which certainly pleases us self-professed foodies. Plus, we were already acclimatized to the weather which isn’t much different to the Irish weather we’re used to!”

Employees across Lake District Hotels and the rest of their colleagues at the Inn on the Square were thrilled about their engagement news which took place last week during a romantic trip away to a Lancashire hotel.

“While we were in our hotel room getting ready for an evening meal, in true Prince Charming fashion, Ciaran knelt down to help place my heels on my feet. Little did I know, he was using this as an excuse to pop the question and next he pulled out a ring box from his jacket pocket!” Sarah said.

“We are planning on having the wedding back home in Ireland, however, if I were to get married in the Lake District it would have to be the Inn on the Lake at Ullswater.”
