Eden Valley Hospice has announced it is cancelling its planned Light up a Life service at Carlisle Cathedral tomorrow.
It said it had made the decision with deep sadness, but its top priority was the health of its staff, volunteers, supporters and the wider community.
The decision follows the Government’s announcement of new COVID-19 Plan B restrictions, which encourage those who can do so, to work from home as well as expanding the requirement for face coverings into most indoor settings.
A statement from the charity said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in the planning for Friday’s much-loved event, and all those people who had hoped to attend the cathedral service.
“With this coming so soon after cancelling our planned service at the hospice on November 28 due to bad weather caused by Storm Arwen, obviously makes this decision even more difficult and heart-breaking.”
Patricia Livsey, chief executive, said: “Everyone at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw is extremely disappointed to cancel this event as we were really looking forward to welcoming our supporters, friends and family to the cathedral to remember our loved ones at this special time of year, particularly as we have not been able to get together properly for such a long time now.
“However, it the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and supporters must come first and we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the service.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who has so far donated to our annual Light up a Life appeal which will help us continue delivering the dedicated and specialist care to adults and young people, and their families, who have life limiting conditions. We really hope to see you soon.”
A virtual Light up a Life service will be released by the charity and people can still donate to the Light up a Life appealat https://buff.ly/3C7Ba8k
