Workington Town have announced a double signing with just over a month to go to the first pre-season game.
Malik Steele and David Weetman have both signed two-year deals with the Chamfor the next two seasons.
Steele is a former Seaton Rangers forward who has been with Newcastle Thunder for the last three years.
Coach Cris Thormsn said: ‘Mal is a big edge back rower that has had three really good educational years with Thunder. He’s a West Cumbrian lad that can’t wait to represent his home town team.
“Although he’s still only 19 years old, with the preseason he’s having, he is really training himself into contention to feature in the 2022 team.”
Steele, said: “I’m really happy and excited to be joining Workington Town and being able to have the chance of playing rugby back home in Cumbria again”
On re-signing Weetman, coach Thorman said: “Unfortunately Dave’s 2021 season was cut short by an horrific ankle dislocation and leg break just as he was hitting his straps.
“He’s an athletic middle forward, who is aggressive and very competitive. He is well into his rehab and should be running very soon and once he does that he’ll be into full training. We’re all really excited to watch Dave fulfil his potential in 2022.”

Weetman had signed for Town in August for the remainder of the season but suffered the bad injuries when playing against the Skolars in London.
The 21-year-old had been playing his rugby in France with Saint Gauden and notched up 14 starts with the team in the Elite One Championship.
Originally a product of Cramlington Rockets he joined the Thunder Academy set up and played six times for the first team.
After re-signing he said: “I’m delighted to have re-signed for the next two seasons. This club has been great with me in every aspect since I arrived so I couldn’t wait to re-sign.“Now I am looking forward to fully recovering from my injury and getting back out there with the lads to show what we can do in the championship.”
