Cumbria still has a coronavirus infection rate significantly lower than the national average – despite the Omicron variant spreading widely across the UK.

The infection rate per 100,000 people in Cumbria is 316.5, which is much less than the England average of 507.7.

A darker colour indicates a higher rate of infection

Here are the areas in Cumbria with the highest coronavirus infection rates for the week ending December 7:

  • Appleby, Shap & Kirkby Thore – 61 (613.8 per 100,000)
  • Mirehouse, Kells & Woodhouse – 57 (573.8 per 100,000)
  • Egremont & Moor Row – 39 (503.2 per 100,000)
  • Penrith Central & West – 38 (502 per 100,000)
  • Thornhill, Gosforth & Seascale – 42 (487.1 per 100,000)
  • Windermere North, Ambleside & Langdales – 30 (472.6 per 100,000)
  • Cleator Moor, Frizington & Ennerdale – 55 (471.8 per 100,000)
  • Penrith Outer – 49 (464.1 per 100,000)
  • Hensingham, Hillcrest & Aikbank – 43 (434.9 per 100,000)
  • Kendal North & Burneside – 36 (410.4 per 100,000)
  • Millom & Duddon Valley – 40 (409.5 per 100,000)
  • Kirkby Stephen, Tebay & Brough – 31 (407.7 per 100,000)
