What was initially a pipe dream for the Wath Brow Hornets club four years ago has now become a reality.

Its new £200,000 training barn was officially opened at the weekend, a facility that will not only benefit the club but the whole community.

Coach Ian Rooney emphasised just how much the training facility will mean when he spoke at the official opening ceremony.

“The committee and the sub-committee which was formed to oversee this development have been fantastic and we are extremely grateful to the support we’ve had.

“It’s been made possible through financial support from the Rugby League World Cup fund, Cumbria County Council, Copeland Council, our own town council and the Postcode Lottery.

“The project has been delivered by William King construction, who have simply been the best in taking it on and finishing it to the highest of standards.

“If you walk around Wath Brow you will see the most important people – the kids – and they are going to really benefit. But it will not just benefit Wath Brow Hornets but the whole community.”

The barn is 25m long and 17m wide, with a low-pitched roof out of consideration for surrounding residents, and allow players to train at the facility all year round as opposed to only when the weather is suitable.
