Ellenborough Rangers face the prospect of two trips to London if they are to make progress in the 2022 Challenge Cup.

Cumbria’s only team involved in the first round draw will travel to play the London amateur side, the Chargers on the weekend of January 15 and 16.

If they win then the West Cumbrians will be back in the capital for the second round to play the League One side London Skolars.

In January 2019 Wath Brow Hornets were drawn at London Chargers and got through 34-6 in a game played in Ealing.

Ellenborough take their place in the competition through winning the Cumberland ARL Premier Division title, but county clubs from the National Conference opted not to enter.

The National Conference League champions Thatto Heath, who beat Wath Brow in this year’s Grand Final, did enter and they will travel to Castleford Lock Lane as one of the standout ties of the first round.

The British Army are involved again and they will visit Orrell St James while three home countries are featured – Scotland by Edinburgh who host York Acorn; Ireland’s Galway Tribesmen visit Pilkington Recs and Bridgend from Wales entertain the Royal Navy.

One of the ties will be streamed live on the BBC, with live matches being shown throughout the tournament right up to the final.

The first and second round draws were made at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the final will be held on May 28.

The first round draw is:

  • West Hull v Upton
  • Featherstone Lions v Hunslet Club Parkside
  • Leigh Miners Rangers v Milford
  • Siddal v GB Police
  • Lock Lane v Thatto Heath Crusaders
  • London Chargers v Ellenborough Rangers
  • Thornhill Trojans v Royal Air Force
  • Jarrow Vikings v Wests Warriors
  • Galway Tribesmen v Pilkington Recs
  • Edinburgh Eagles v York Acorn
  • Rochdale Mayfield v Wigan St Pats
  • Bentley v Stanningley
  • Bridgend Blue Bulls v Royal Navy
  • Orrell St James v British Army

The second round draw is:

  • Edinburgh/York Acorn v Jarrow/Wests Warriors
  • Rochdale Hornets v Midlands Hurricanes
  • Doncaster v Thornhill/Royal Air Force
  • Orrell St James/Army v Bridgend/Royal Navy
  • Oldham v Lock Lane/Thatto Heath
  • Galway/Pilkington Recs v Siddal/GB Police
  • West Hull/Upton v Rochdale Mayfield/Wigan St Pats
  • Featherstone Lions/Hunslet Club Parkside v Bentley/Stanningley
