A former army officer from Cumbria has received his OBE from Prince Charles.

Neil Jurd, of Kendal, was awarded the accolade for his work with the Army Cadet Force.

The former Lieutenant Colonel was presented with the award by the Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Windsor Castle last Wednesday..

He said: “It was a fantastic experience – I love my work developing leaders in education and the cadet force, and I’m delighted to be recognised for it.

“Lewis Hamilton [who was knighted] was just ahead of me in the line – in fact he and his mum walked into the building right in front of us, and Craig David was behind us.

“The award was on the military list – Colonel Neil Jurd OBE, a former regular army logistics and Gurkha officer and Sandhurst instructor, who now as a volunteer runs the Army Cadet Force adult officer training course.”

In his day job Mr Jurd is a leadership coach and course director.

This year he had already received the British Citizen Award, which recognises everyday people for exceptional endeavour.
