NHS staff spread some Christmas cheer in Workington

NHS social prescribing team deliver Christmas hampers to those in need

NHS staff in Workington have been helping to distribute food parcels and Christmas gifts to people in need over the festive break.

Jacqueline Ellery and her colleagues who make up the social prescribing team, delivered the parcels to help members of the community where they were needed.

A spokesman from Workington’s Primary Care Network said: “Christmas can be particularly difficult for lots of people, so it’s wonderful to see our colleagues acting in such a kind way, and helping out and giving relief where they can.”

Social prescribers work alongside colleagues in GP practices to help support patients who may have needs which aren’t primarily medical.

They provide vital services for people in the community experiencing loneliness and isolation, or people feeling overwhelmed or anxious about particular issues.

These difficulties can have a huge impact on people’s health, but by linking people into groups in their neighbourhood, or into clubs or sessions that are happening nearby, our social prescribers have been making a big difference to how people feel.

The spokesman added: “It’s wonderful to see our social prescribers going above and beyond, and really demonstrating the positive impact they’re having on our communities. I’d like to thank them all for their kindness.”
