Workington and District Sunday League will delay the resumption of fixtures because of concerns over COVID-19.
The League has taken the annual Christmas and New Year break but have now decided not to resume until January 30.
Secretary Ron Caffrey said: “This is because the rises in the COVID-19 rate with over 1,200 hundred people in Allerdale area being infected up to Christmas week with the virus.
“With our young men going out during Christmas and New Year weekends, it’s a fair assumption that a few of them have caught the virus, so won’t be fit to play on January 16, when we were going to put on a full fixtures list.
“We don’t want the Sunday League being blamed for helping to spread the virus around the area.”
Meanwhile some disappointing news for the League that Seaton Rangers were resigning from the competition.
Caffrey said: “I received a text on the league app from Luke Henderson on December 23 2021 saying that Seaton Rangers were resigning from the Sunday League. This will be confirmed by the League Committee in late January.
“Until the league committee have met no player of Seaton Rangers will be allowed to leave and sign for another Sunday League team.”
Seaton Rangers had competed as Pack Horse until this season. They were lying seventh of eight teams in the Premier Division have registered one win in four games.
However they had lost those three points through the non-fulfilment of a fixture.
