Workington Town’s Regan Tinnion set to make history

Regan Tinnion lifts the Cumberland League Division One Trophy (Ben Challis)

Regan Tinnion, the Cockermouth Titans skipper, will make a little bit of local history when he plays for Workington Town at Barrow today.

He is the brother of Conor Tinnion, a long-established member of the Workington Reds team across the road, and the current club captain.

Town coach Chris Thorman is using the club’s friendly games to look at players who have been training with the club but have not yet signed deals.

Also named in the 20-strong squad for the game in south Cumbria are the Ellenborough forward Luke Broster and the rangy Penrith rugby union forward JJ Key, who returned to playing this season in North One West after several years out of the game.

Malik Steele and Ciaran Walker, two west Cumbrians signed from Newcastle, are i9n the squad along with two senior Thunder players who have signed for Town – Alex Clegg and Evan Simons.

Thorman’s squad is: Oscar Thomas, Alex Clegg, Zac Olstrom, Matty Henson, Joe Brown, Ethan Bickerdike, Alex Young, Jamie Doran, Malik Steele, Ciaran Walker, Marcus O’Brien, Evan Simons, Lee Postlethwaite, John Hutchins, Perry Singleton, JJ Key, Luke Broster, Caine Barnes, Jordan Thomson, Regan Tinnion.

Although Barrow do have player missing through Covid issues, including record try scorer Tee Ritson, they have named a 20 strong squad which includes new signings Sam Brooks, Josh Wood, Ellis Gillam and Anton Iaria.

Brett Carter, who has returned to Barrow on trial after a spell with Whitehaven, and ex-Millom prop Ethan Kelly who has played professionally at Whitehaven and North Wales are also included.

Two local amateurs, Connor Saunders and Danny Wright, have also been named by coach Paul Crarey who has 11 players unavailable, mainly through Covid issues.

His squad is: Sam Brooks, Brett Carter, Brad Crellin, Luke Cresswell, Charlie Emslie, Carl Forster, Ellis Gillam, Tom Hopkins, Anton Iaria, Ryan Johnston, Ethan Kelly, Danny Langtree, Hakim Miloudsi, Connor Saunders, Ryan Shaw, Connor Terrill, Dan Toal, Shane Toal, Josh Wood, Danny Wright.
