Grants available for firms affected by Omicron

A new coronavirus business grants scheme has been launched in Carlisle.

Eligible Carlisle businesses can now apply for an Omicron hospitality and leisure grant.

Funded by the government, the scheme will be administered for the Carlisle area by Carlisle City Council.

Last year, the Government announced further grant support for businesses experiencing difficulties because of the Omicron variant and the dual impact of staff absences and lower consumer demand.

The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant scheme will provide support to hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses in recognition that the rise of the Omicron variant means that some businesses have been struggling during this time.

The support will be a one-off grant, available for businesses on the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) business ratings list on 30 December 2021 only.

The criteria and online application form are available at https://www.carlisle.gov.uk/news-and-events/business-support

The application deadline is 14 February 2022.

John Mallinson, leader of the city council, said:

“We urge businesses to check the criteria for the grant scheme and if they think they are eligible complete an online application as soon as possible.

“We’ll aim to process applications as soon as possible. Applicants are reminded to have all necessary documentation accessible before starting on their application. More details are available on the council’s website.”
