Calls are being made for a long-term solution to road flooding in a South Cumbrian village.
The road by the tarn in Leece, between Ulverston and Barrow, has been flooded several times as mud from nearby fields has washed down it, overwhelming existing drains and causing blockages.
It has meant that villagers have had to wade through water to get to their homes.
Ben Cooper, Low Furness councillor, said: “I contacted the council’s highways team as soon as the road flooded, and we got the drains cleared and the road swept.
“We now need a long-term solution to this problem. We can’t have the same thing happening year in and year out. The Council needs to start taking this matter seriously and listening to the residents in Leece.
“I want to see a new, bigger drain installed at the top end of the village, so that all the water and mud that gets washed off the fields doesn’t end up on the roads to begin with.
“It’s really not fair that people living in Leece are being made to put up with this. People understand this won’t be a quick fix, but we need to get the ball rolling”.
