More than £1,000 of prizes are waiting to be won in a competition which aims to encourage people to support local businesses in Allerdale.
The contest originally had a prize fund of £500 but, thanks to the generosity of the area’s shops, cafes and restaurants, there is now double the amount of goodies up for grabs.
The hamper includes a load of vouchers, for everything from food and beauty to homewares and gifts, as well as great prizes like food and gifts, a beautiful print from award-winning photographer Ben Bush and a stay at Cockermouth’s Trout Hotel.
The initiative has been organised by Allerdale Borough Council and is a showcase of all that is great about Allerdale’s high streets and villages, and the area’s independent businesses.
New pages on the Visit Allerdale website have been created to highlight case studies in each of the borough’s seven towns, and a social media campaign on Facebook and Instagram is attracting thousands of views.
The free-to-enter competition features a fun animation and viewers just need to answer one easy question.
The hampers will contain goodies from each of Allerdale’s towns – Aspatria, Cockermouth, Keswick, Maryport, Silloth, Wigton and Workington.
Mike Johnson, leader of Allerdale council and executive member for economic growth, said: “The support we have received from Allerdale’s businesses for this campaign has been amazing and I am grateful to every single one who has contributed to this fantastic prize.
“Thank you for being so enthusiastic, and thank you for choosing Allerdale as a place to run your business.
“The competition closes on Monday 31 January so don’t miss out on a chance to win. One lucky person is going to get the most amazing shopping spree in some of the best businesses Allerdale has to offer.”
To enter the competition, watch the short film on www.visitallerdale.co.uk/shop-local-allerdale and answer one simple question about it.
No purchase is necessary and the competition closes at midnight on January 31.
