A Workington teenager will stand trial later this year accused of driving dangerously twice in a fortnight on roads around his home town.
Eighteen-year-old Leon Walsh appeared in front of a judge at Carlisle Crown Court this morning (Tuesday).
Walsh stands accused of driving an Audi vehicle dangerously on both July 1, 2021, and July 13, 2021.
On the first date, it is alleged that the dangerous driving occurred at Oxford Street in the centre of Workington.
On the second date, Walsh is alleged to have driven dangerous on a number of roads — Mitchell Avenue, Thwaite Bank, the A597, William Street and Church Street.
During today’s brief court hearing, Walsh pleaded not guilty to both of the charges that he faces. His barrister, Kim Whittlestone, briefly outlined the teen’s defence in respect of each charge.
His trial will take place in front of a jury at the crown court in the week of June 29. It is estimated that the hearing will last around two days.
Until the week of his trial, Walsh, of Mitchell Avenue, Northside, Workington, was granted unconditional bail by the judge, Recorder Paul Hodgkinson.
