A Penrith man has admitted more drugs offences during his second court appearance in a fortnight.

Michael John Torrance, now 38, attended in front of magistrates in Carlisle this morning.

During a short hearing, Torrance pleaded guilty to both driving with the proportion of the main psychoactive element of cannabis (THC) in his bloodstream; and also illegal possession of the class B drug.

The court heard Torrance, of King Street, Penrith, was behind the wheel of a Hyundai Getz at Sandgate in the town when he committed the motoring offence on September 4 last year.

Both of the crimes put Torrance in breach of a suspended prison sentence he was handed by a judge at Carlisle Crown Court in January 2021, for burglary and theft.

So, too, did four other offences — illegal possession of heroin, psilocin and cannabis, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis — which he admitted when appearing at the magistrates’ court a fortnight ago. These were committed in late November last year, also in breach of the suspended sentence.

Torrance’s case was adjourned today and he is due to be sentenced for all of the offending by a judge at the crown court on March 29.

In the meantime, Torrance was granted unconditional bail.
