A team of trekkers has raised more than £55,000 for local charity St Mary’s Hospice.
The group, aged between 19 and 62, took on Everest Base Camp over two weeks in April.
They were expertly led by Matt Le Voi from LMG Treks and Expeditions. Standing at an altitude of 5,364 metres, Everest Base Camp is regarded as a bucket-list trek for many adventurers.
Nine people completed the trek. The original group of 10 was missing Jonny Wright, who was unable to take part after being involved in a serious road traffic accident that resulted in the amputation of his leg.
Despite this, Jonny and his friend, Matthew White, raised more than £13,500 for St Mary’s Hospice.
The final fundraising total was revealed to the trekkers at a special celebration held on 2nd July.
Mel Dixon, Events and Challenges Manager at St Mary’s Hospice, said: “Watching this group grow from strangers into a team, supporting one another every step of the way, has been nothing short of inspiring.
“To reunite and reveal that they have collectively raised an incredible £55,095.60 was an incredibly emotional moment.
“I couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved. Their determination, resilience and generosity will have a lasting impact, and on behalf of everyone at St Mary’s Hospice, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the team, their extended families and everyone who supported them on this epic journey.”
St Mary’s Hospice is proud to offer supporters the opportunity to take on some of the world’s most iconic trekking challenges while raising vital funds for local hospice care.
We have a few spaces left for treks in 2027 and due to popular demand we have opened up places for 2028 already.
