Mr Stroe was travelling in a Volkswagen Passat, which was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes Luton van.

Mr Stroe and another passenger, Florentin Lepadat, 51, also from Rochdale were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third person in the car, a man aged 31, was taken by ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and has since been discharged.
