The future of a site that once housed a bowling alley and crazy golf facility in Workington has been secured.

The former Eclipse bowling alley in Workington closed down in January and was taken over by eco-friendly house and garden accessories retailer Chimney Sheep.

They have since reverted the space back to warehousing and will move their headquarters to Workington in the summer from their current base in Maryport.

The space will be used for storage, manufacturing, fulfilment and office space.

It can now be revealed that the bowling alley and crazy golf facilities will reopen under new ownership in the town centre this summer.

Chimney Sheep Ltd have taken over the former Workington bowling alley, reverting the space back to warehousing following the closure of the leisure facility in January.

Currently employing 10 people, the move into the new premises will allow Chimney Sheep Ltd to grow further with the hope of creating new roles across the business.

Chimney Sheep was set up in 2012 selling draught excluders for chimneys made of Herdwick wool and today the best-selling product is sold all over the world. The company have grown year on year and expanded their offering to sell a wide range of environmentally friendly house and garden products, using sustainable materials where possible.

Sally Phillips, Director of Chimney Sheep Ltd said: “This is an exciting move for us. We’ve been operating out of two separate buildings in Maryport, which has been difficult. The former bowling alley building will enable us to have our storage, manufacturing and fulfilment all in one place, with space for our business to grow and expand in the future.

“This will mean we can create more jobs for the area and further support the local economy. Workington will now sit at the nucleus of our growth and we truly believe that although we’ll be utilising the space in a slightly different way, we’ll still be an asset to the local vicinity.”

The new site, which is undergoing refurbishment, will aim to open as the new Chimney Sheep head offices in the summer.
