Cumbria Cup draw sees tasty clashes in prospect

There’s a particularly tasty game in prospect after the draw for the preliminary round of the Cumbria County Cup was made.

Distington and Ellenborough will square up on April 23 in the eye-catching tie of the four preliminary round games to be played that day.

This season Distington have set off impressively in the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL Premier Division and are likely to be strong contenders with reigning champions Ellenborough for this year’s title.

There’s a derby clash in prospect, too, with Maryport hosting Glasson just 10 days after they met in a Premier Division game. Glasson finished 44-22 winners.

Lowca versus Cockermouth Titans looks a well-matched pairing while Aspatria Hornets will be hoping to upset their visitors Wath Brow A despite being underdogs.

There’s also a round of BARLA County Shield matches in which two south Cumbrian sides will be involved.

The games, also to be played on April 23, are:

  • Millom  A v Ellenborough A
  • Egremont A v Hensingham A
  • Seaton A v Cockermouth A
  • Barrow Island A v Kells A
