A £25,000 fund has been created to support projects that help tackle poverty in the South Lakes.
It has been set up as the cost of living crisis grips the UK and up to £8,000 is available for individual projects, which can be established or new ideas, from the fund, which is run by South Lakeland District Council.
The Fairer South Lakeland Community Fund is available for town and parish councils, community and voluntary groups and local charities.
Councillor Suzie Pye, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and poverty alleviation on the district council, said: “The cost of living is at a 30-year high. Factors such as the rise in energy bills and cost of food will impact low-income, vulnerable people the most. Families who are already struggling may now have to choose between eating and heating during the colder months.”
Applicants can work with other funders, community organisations and agencies to maximise the impacts, as long as the aim of the project is to tackle poverty.
