A man accused of assaulting his former partner in Keswick and flouting a court order during the same week will stand trial later this year.
Christopher McKenzie, 35, faced three criminal charges when he appeared remotely at Carlisle Crown Court this morning over a video link.
One charge alleges that McKenzie committed a common assault on the woman between May 11 and 17 this year; two more charges allege that he acted in breach of a restraining order — imposed at the crown court in March this year — by attending at the woman’s address “without reasonable excuse”.
One of the breaches is alleged to have occurred between May 11 and 17, and the other on May 17. It is alleged the offences occurred in Keswick.
McKenzie, formerly of Albert Street, Penrith, and latterly of no fixed address, is due to stand trial at the crown court on September 15.
In the meantime he was remanded in custody by Judge Nicholas Dean QC, and told he must co-operate with his legal team as they prepare a defence statement setting out his written response to the prosecution case.
