Moon & Sixpence expands into Keswick

Visitors to Derwentwater can enjoy a tasty new addition in time for the official start of summer.

On Wednesday, Cockermouth-based business owner Stephen Kidd opened the doors to The Moon & Sixpence in the former National Trust Lakeside Visitor Centre.

The National Trust property, which closed during the lockdown in 2020, welcomed its new tenant in a prominent Keswick spot.

Stephen’s speciality coffee, awarded Best Neighbourhood Coffee Spot for its flagship site in Main Street, Cockermouth, expanded into a pop-up coffee van in 2021 and could often be seen in popular National Trust locations, such as Cinderdale above Crummock Water.

Bruce Hardy, visitor operations and experience manager for the National Trust, said: “We’re delighted that this much-loved location in Keswick will reopen for visitors to enjoy the Lake District’s best coffee as well as quality, local bakes during their visit to some of the spaces we care for.

“We know people have welcomed the pop-up Moon & Sixpence experience and this tenancy means that both the local community and visitors alike can support this local business while they enjoy the beauty and nature of Derwentwater.”

Mr Kidd, owner of the Moon & Sixpence, said: “The success of our Cockermouth shop has come from remaining true to our values of bringing people together as a community, as well as offering the best quality experience.

“We’re excited to build new relationships with the Keswick community and delight visitors to the area with our specialty coffee offer, of which we’re so proud.”

The Moon & Sixpence in Keswick will replicate the offer in Cockermouth of speciality, locally roasted coffee, using locally-sourced organic milk, and quality, freshly-baked cakes. In addition, the Keswick shop will also offer ice cream.
