The deadline has been extended for artists to enter an exhibition which could land them a £1,000 commission.
The second Historic Quarter Arts Festival has now given amateur and professional artists until July 25 to submit entries for an exciting new competition, with the theme of Carlisle 2022.
The winner will receive a prestigious £1,000 commission to create an artwork of Carlisle Cathedral in its 900th year.
Organiser Georgina Harland, of Intro PR, said: “We know that a number of artists would appreciate an extra week to finalise their entries.
“We have already had submissions from a wide range of artists including Malcolm Wilson, Yvette Earl and Pete Pieri. It has been fascinating to see how artists have responded to the theme of Carlisle in different ways.
“We have had urban scenes, rural landscapes and iconic buildings. It should be a great exhibition for people to enjoy through the summer.”
Artwork entered for the competition will be displayed in a central exhibition and around the Historic Quarter during August. The winner will be announced in September.
It is the second year of the arts festival which in 2021 showcased 50 artists across 16 venues including cafes, hairdressers, Tullie House and the cathedral.
The judges are Dr Sarah Bonner, principal lecturer of the Institute of the Arts, University of Cumbria; Melanie Gardner, Keeper of Fine and Decorative Art at Tullie House museum and art gallery; and the Rev Canon Dr Benjamin Carter, Canon Warden of Carlisle Cathedral.
The event is supported by Carlisle City Council and the University of Cumbria.
- The competition entries can be completed in any medium apart from photography and an image of the completed work should be submitted by 5pm on Monday July 25. For further details email george@weareintro.co.uk
