Injury-hit Whitehaven have been boosted by the return of Hull FC’s Marcus Walker for the rest of the season.
The centre had made six appearances on loan from the Super League side after his debut in the Easter West Cumbrian derby victory over Workington and played his last game for the club in the 24-12 home defeat to Halifax on June 12.
Head coach Jonty Gorley said: “With the injuries to a number of outside backs the last couple games, I thought it necessary to bring in a centre to bolster the squad and Marcus was my first option.
“I messaged Brett Hodgson at Hull FC and he’s allowed us to take him, potentially on dual registration for the rest of the season.
“I’d like to go on record and thank Brett and James Clark at Hull FC for all they’ve done for us this season and allowing this to happen.
“Marcus really enjoyed his first spell with us and had been itching to come back for weeks. He was a popular member of the squad when he was with us and was starting to find his feet. He’s a strong lad who carries well with pace and evasion. Marcus is a positive addition to the squad.”
Director Ashley Kilpatrick says the club’s partnership with Hull is one that they are extremely happy with and pleased to be able to use this again.
He said: “We’re thrilled to have Marcus stay with us for the rest of the season, He really impressed us all with his attitude when he was here previously he really bought into the club and what we are trying to do.
“Marcus brought great enthusiasm to the team and he’s a good young centre who tightens-up that edge and carries well.
“We have to give a big thanks James Clark and Brett Hodgson at Hull FC for allowing Marcus to see the season out with us. It will help aid Marcus’s development playing championship rugby each week.”
Meanwhile Whitehaven have confirmed that their new hooker, Curtis Davies who has arrived on a month’s loan from Workington will be allowed to play against his parent club Town in the Summer Bash fixture at Headingley.
The fixture on Sunday July 31 falls in the month’s loan period.
