Carlisle City have signed 20-year-old Robbie Ivison following a prominent showing in a friendly with Workington last week.
Ivison, who operated wide right, had started his career with Carlisle United youth set-up before switching to Queen of the South where he played two senior games. Last season he played in the Lowland League for Gretna.
City manager Jim Nichols said: “We’re pleased to get Robbie on board because I’ve been trying to get him to Gillford Park for a while now.”
Ivison did not play in City’s friendly at Kendal on Saturday but another trialist was included, although Nichols is unlikely to follow-up with a signing.
City won 2-1 against the North West Counties League side, although it was a game not without controversy.
“We made our changes at half-time but one of our players Ryan Swales was winded rather badly early in the second-half. I couldn’t believe it when the referee would not let us put one of the lads back on, especially given the heat on the day.
“It meant we played for most of the second half with ten men, and it was hard going but I was pleased with how we kept our shape. We scored first, they equalised before half-time and we scored a late winner,” said Nichols.
Jay Kelly had given City an early lead and a penalty from Jordan Irving from virtually the last kick of the game won it for the visitors.
City entertain Nelson from the North West Counties on Saturday before the first game in the Northern League season on July 30 at home to Sunderland RCA.
