Even the recent extreme heat can’t stop Cleator Moor’s marathon man, as he presses on with his epic challenge.
Gary McKee, 53, is running a marathon every single day this year in aid of charity of Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Recent spells of hot weather, mixed with work shifts at the local nuclear site and lots of events to attend haven’t affected McKee’s efforts.
Gary said: “It’s all going really well, people are organising their own events in the community which are putting lots of money on the page and I’ve enjoyed touring the local schools over the past month or so.
“Beau and Minnie have both finished school for their summer holidays so they’ll be able to join me on their bikes more, something they’re looking forward to doing!
“Tea, cake and ice pops at Bill’s Brews are as good as ever and Janet looks after me with her cherry cake.
“Running in much warmer than normal conditions recently hasn’t been too bad, I just slow the pace down and take more fluids on board.”
The ultra marathon runner has supported Macmillan for over 18 years and last year completed a gruelling 110 consecutive marathons for his two chosen charities, raising an incredible £200,000.
“It isn’t easy getting up at 4:45 am doing a full shift at work and then running a marathon, but it isn’t easy going through a cancer battle either,” added Gary.
“The family are going on holiday this week but Beau is staying at home with me as he’s supporting me by doing 365 days of cycling/running, there are not many 14-year-olds would do that!”
