Workington have made another signing to boost the squad with just over two weeks to the start of the new season.
James Hooper, who was a team-mate of manager Danny Grainger’s during a short spell at Carlisle United, is an attacking midfielder who played for Atherton Collieries towards the end of last season.
Manchester-born Hooper, 25, joined Carlisle on a short-term deal at the end of the 2016/17 season and scored once in nine outings.
He had made his Football League debut for Rochdale, whom he joined as an 18-year-old in 2015, playing two games.
Hooper has also represented FC United of Manchester, Stockport County, Radcliffe Borough, Salford City, Ashton United, Altrincham and Chorley before ending last season at Atherton Collieries.
Manager Grainger said: “Hoops is a great addition to the club. I know his quality on the ball after sharing a dressing room with him and I’m sure he will bring that quality to the club as well.
“I know what type of player he is and also what type of person he is.
“He is a winner that will demand high standards from not only himself but everyone around him.
“Once we get him up to the fitness levels we expect, I’m confident he will have a big impact on us this season.”
Hooper said: “Obviously knowing the gaffer and how he wants to play is a massive pull for me which is rare in non league,
“I know he has very high standards and the way the players buy into that and the quality in the squad.
“I can’t wait to get into the flow of it after just one session and match. I can see there is real quality in the squad and competition in every position, which you need if you want to be successful.
“I’m excited to be part of the squad and the club and want to help in our target of trying to get promoted.”
