Seaton Rangers maintained their fight for a play-off place in the National Conference Third Division at the first time of asking.
In their west Cumbrian derby they clinched a tight contest against Hensingham with three late tries, all in the last eight minutes, to win 36-16.
A half-time score-line of 18-16 reflected the evenness of the game and it stayed that way right through until the 72nd minute.
Then Ciaran Walker, returning to his community club after leaving Workington Town, danced through for the vital try.
Three minutes later another ex-pro, former Workington and Whitehaven second-rower Brett Phillips, who has also recently returned to hid amateur roots, crashed over.
The game was already won when Gary Taylor added to the victory margin with his side’s seventh try in the last minute.
It was a contrast to how the game had started and after only 12 minutes the visitors enjoyed a 12-0 advantage.
Winger Jake Rothery and highly-rated full-back Scott Egan had crossed with Noel Branthwaite converting both.
Seaton came back with two unconverted tries in the space of five minutes through Billy Southward and Phillips.
Star man prop Luke Charlton went over for a third Hensingham try but in the last four minutes of the half Seaton grabbed the lead.
Winger Lewis Mason scored a try, converted by Dominic Smallwood and substitute Ellis Nixon also went over for an unconverted try just before the half-time whistle.
It was the last score until Walker went over on 72 minutes, followed by Phillips and Taylor, with Smallwood converting all three.
The top two teams will automatically be promoted with the next four playing-off to determine who will join them.
Rangers are currently fourth, level on points with Oldham St Anne’s who won recently at Seaton.
Hensingham, meanwhile, are next to bottom and likely to have to seek re-election.
Kells are on course to return to the Premier Division as they currently lead Division One on points differential from Hull Dockers.
The Whitehaven side played their catch-up game on the Dockers at Featherstone Lions and came home on the back of a hard-earned 26-22 victory.
They had opened up a 12-0 lead with tries by Harry Nelson and Harry Watson, both converted by Watson.
But that had changed by the hour mark when the Lions had roared back to lead 16-12 with three tries, two of them converted.
Then when Featherstone had a player red-carded for an alleged spear tackle Kells hit back strongly.
Clark Chambers, Blaine Graham and Jack Ainley all scored in a purple patch of 10 minutes, one of which was converted by Ross Gainford.
Although the Lions did cut the deficit to four points with a late converted try Kells were able to see it through.
In the Premier Division Wath Brow Hornets slipped to a disappointing 23-20 defeat at relegation-haunted Thornhill Trojans.
The win lifted Thornhill off the bottom above Egremont Rangers who look destined for the drop.
The Trojans had lost their previous nine games and Wath Brow looked to be on course to extend that run to ten.
Clarke Riley and Sam Curwen both scored tries in the first 13 minutes and Curwen converted both.
By half-time, however the Dewsbury side had fought back level with two converted tries of their own.
Wath Brow responded well, however, in the third quarter of the game and went back in front with a try from Dean Rooney and two more goals by Curwen.
However on 63 minutes a scuffle ended with Wath Brow’s Riley and the home side’s Luke Carter being red-carded.
Thornhill handled the situation better at 12 against 12 and were soon in for a converted try.
With six minutes left they went in front for the first time with an unconverted try and sealed the points with a late field goal from man of the match, coach Danny Ratcliffe.
