A pair of holidaymakers ended up neck deep in water and had to be rescued after being cut off by a tide while they were out in the Duddon Estuary.
Millom Coastguard, Furness Coastguard and Haverigg inshore rescue teams were called after the pair were spotted on Sunday.
The emergency services made their way to the scene and a search began.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said: “During the search we received a report that two persons, matching the descriptions, had been assisted from the neck deep water by a local fisherman.
“The casualties then made off from the scene leaving search and rescue units to look for them to ensure that they didn’t need any further medical intervention. After a lengthy search of the area nothing was found of the casualties who are believed to be on holiday in the area.
“We would like to extend our thanks to the experienced fisherman without whose intervention this incident could have had a different outcome and also to the first Informant who placed the initial call. This is the third incident of this type in as many weeks, and the second in four days. Two being very close calls.
“Could we please ask people in the holiday industry to make customers aware of the dangers, tides and also the warning signs strategically placed around the area.
“Please share this post to help spread the word before it is too late. We want people, both holidaymakers and locals, to enjoy our beaches. But to do so in a safe manner.”
