The weather is affecting pigeon racing this weekend with the West Cumbria Amalgamation having to change their programme.
The two organisations should have been getting ready to liberate together for the first time in young bird races from Appleton.
But because of the forecasted extreme heat the Derwent Valley Federation and the West Cumberland Federation will not be racing on Saturday or Sunday.
The Amalgamation said today: “The weather will be monitored to try and get a race from Appleton in the early part of next week. This decision was reached by the committee and the race controller.”
Temperatures are expected to reach the 30s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with no break in the weather forecast until Monday or Tuesday.
The Derwent Valley has so far raced from Flookburgh, Garstang and Charnock Richard while reaching the 100-mile distance on Saturday at Appleton.
The West Cumberland Federation has had three Flookburgh races, and then Garstang and Charnock Richard on Saturday.
