Upper Eden warmed up for their Cumbria Cup-tie at the weekend with an impressive 50-12 win over Darlington.
The Kirkby Stephen side take on St Benedict’s on Saturday in a first round tie and their performance against their Darlington visitors was very encouraging.
Having gone through last season’s Cumbria League programme with a 100 per cent record, Upper Eden were disappointed to miss out on promotion.
Interestingly Darlington play in Counties 1/Durham and Northumberland where Upper Eden might have expected to be promoted to.
Although they only played four 15-minute sections because of the heat it was still a very impressive display from the home side.
Their speed, handling skills, timing and defensive tackling all stood out.
They scored tries through Ollie Bennett (3), Rupert Civil (2), George Edgar, Kyle Glasson and John Blue. Bennet converted three while Jay Elliott improved two of the tries.
Upper Eden also welcomed back one of their former players Matt Allinson, who has been a regular and prominent member of the Penrith side in recent years.
