A lager launched by a Lake District restaurant and bar has raised £895 to help a seriously injured mountain rescue team member.
The Lake View Garden Bar and BAHA in Bowness-on-Windermere launched the lager in April 2021.
The initiative was proposed by friend of the injured Patterdale team member Chris Lewis, who sustained life-changing injuries following a 150m fall while out on a rescue last year and operations director of the venue owner Hargreaves Enterprises, David Hampshaw.
David, with marketing director, Graham Hadaway, presented the donation to Richard Warren, chairman of the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, which represents the 12 volunteer rescue teams serving Cumbria and its communities.
David said: “Knowing the risks and as someone who lives in the area and climbs the mountains, I have a huge amount of admiration for the local mountain rescue teams, and talking with Richard brings home the importance of being involved with supporting these unsung heroes; whether that’s raising money to help injured rescuers or support the next generation who volunteer their time to help those in need in the mountains.”
The association is launching a new Adventure Smart safety awareness campaign which will be rolled out across the Lake District in the coming weeks
Richard said: “We are delighted not only to be working with Hargreaves Enterprises on this but also Lake District Hotels, Herdy UK, Cicerone Press and Coniston Corporate Embroidery UK Ltd.”
Any organisation or business interested in taking part in the campaign is urged to contact Nick Owen via email at [email protected]
Hargreaves Enterprises has already planned further fundraising activities for 2022 and 2023.
