A nuclear scientist based in Cumbria has been revealed as one of the contestants in the new series of Great British Bake Off.

The popular series, hosted by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, begins on Channel 4 on Tuesday September 13 at 8pm.

Judges are the formidable Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Janes, 25, is one of the people vying to be crowned this year’s winner and will be hoping for a Hollywood handshake for one of his bakes.

Originally from Glasgow, he moved to England after university.

A proud kilt wearer, his bio for the show says: “He is a self-proclaimed board game geek and loves horror films from the 70s and 80s. An avid music fan, reflect in his baking style; which is now significantly better than it was during his childhood when he was burning pancakes in his mother’s kitchen!

“He enjoys the technical side of baking, but is in his element when he makes his bakes his own, with his signature ‘child-friendly horror’ style and adorable decoration. His favourite flavours are anything autumnal, such as mixed spice, apples and caramel.”
