A careers fair will be held in Barrow later this month.
Inspira, the Department for Work and Pensions and Barrow and Furness MP Simon Fell have organised the event, on Friday, September 23 at Furness College sports hall, Channelside.
Mr Fell is calling on Furness-based businesses to come forward and attend the fair, to engage direct with active job seekers.
The format of the event is split into two, with jobseekers from the DWP invited to attend between 1pm and 3pm, and school and college students from 3pm to 5pm.
Mr Fell said: “I hope local businesses will take up the opportunity to have a presence at the fair and be able to chat direct with active jobseekers, by having a stall at the fair.
“Given the time of year, it is anticipated that interest in the event will be high, and we are looking forward to a great fair. My thanks to the local DWP and Inspira teams for working together with us to put this event on.”
To maximise attendance work coaches from the local Jobcentre are actively encouraging jobseekers to attend. They are also working with Inspira, so all year 10 to 13 students in the area are invited to attend the later session.
An Inspira spokesman said: “The event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase local recruitment opportunities for adults looking to get into work. Our National Careers Advisors will be available at the event to support clients with free careers advice.”
The event is free to attend for all jobseekers and students. There is no charge for companies to have a stall, but partnerships are welcome to help cover the costs such as catering and light refreshments.
