Land at Kingmoor Park set to be developed into an employment site

Enterprise in Carlisle is set for a boost if the city council approves plans to expand Kingmoor Park.

Carlisle City Council has received an application for planning permission to develop a 102,194sq m site on land off Dukes Drive, between Kingmoor Park North and Central, increasing the job offering in the enterprise zone.

The proposal involves demolishing existing buildings and developing a new employment site office space, parking and landscaping.

It is part of wider development proposed by Kingmoor Park Properties Limited, expanding on the already successful enterprise park.

City councillors have previously approved plans for a DPD distribution centre at Kingmoor Park.

In supporting statements regarding the latest plans, the applicant said: “The site is currently in agricultural use and has been allocated for employment uses under the Carlisle Local Plan.

“Kingmoor Park West is located close to J44 of the M6 in Carlisle and is one of the largest industrial estates in the North West and the only Enterprise Zone in Cumbria.

“Since the site was bought in 1999, Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd. has invested millions of pounds into transforming the site into a vibrant, economic hub of activity and opportunity.”

Cumbria County Council and Edinburgh Woollen Mill are named as just two of the employers operating at the existing site which delivers significant benefits to the area including thousands of full time jobs, it said.

The city council’s deputy leader Gareth Ellis said: “Kingmoor Park keeps up the pace for incredible job creation for the area.

“It is good to see there is such confidence in Carlisle, that Carlisle is seen as a place that companies want to do business with and that has the necessary workforce.

“The MPs and the city council working with the private sector, have been focussed on bringing more investment into Carlisle, both private and public and we are seeing the dividends of that.”
