A landmark Carlisle building has been brought back to life thanks to a new deal between a city property firm and a young entrepreneur.
Kayleigh Seggie has taken on the former Globe Inn premises on Bridge Street, a prominent junction between Carlisle Castle and the McVitie’s factory, and opened up Laser & Co. She’s taken on the lease from the developer and construction firm McKnight and created a luxury spa-like environment.
The building was once a pub under the city’s State Management Scheme, the strict regulation of drinking establishments by the Government from 1916 to 1973. In more recent years it’s been a regular pub, a hairdressing salon and a Fair Trade décor and interiors shop.
Kayleigh latterly owned the Boujee barber shop on Castle Street, where she diversified into laser hair removal. In her new Bridge Street premises she is also leasing rooms to The Spa Room.

Kayleigh said: “I focus on hair removal for men and women, including helping those who have conditions like polycystic ovaries and hormonal issues which cause excess hair growth. I started when I had Boujee and the pandemic gave me a chance to reset and realise I wanted to specialise on the laser treatments full time.
“I knew I would need bigger premises and when McKnight said this building was available I knew it would be snapped up quickly so I signed up for the lease as quickly as I could. It’s an iconic building in Carlisle and has everything I needed – a prominent location, parking and lots of passing trade.
“There’s a massive cellar I haven’t even touched yet so that’s going to be the second phase!”
